Battle Lions Annual Go Karting 2017

Yet another successful event run by Battle Lions for the Lions International Blood Research Appeal!

Despite the absence on holiday of several regular stalwarts, seven teams took part in this two hour team endurance challenge race in brilliant weather and in front of large crowds to cheer them on. And the excitement was heightened not only by battle between historic winners, Autowise, trying to regain the crown they lost to Dumb and Dumber last year, some tight and serious racing, but by events at the track itself which at one point stopped the racing!!

Shortly after the first 15 minute driver change a power cut at the circuit caused the timing system to fail and he race was red flagged and the karts bought to a halt. A really hi tech failure – a faulty kettle in the canteen!! Even worse it meant no more teas!!!

Luckily the first 15 minutes had been backed up so were added on at the end, but with no timing screens available managers and teams had to rely on updates from the marshals every so often to monitor their performances and adjust their tactics!!! It got even more eventful when Uckfield had a faulty clutch and Autowise team A had to change Karts twice with burnt out clutches!

The tightness and speed of the race could be readily seen in the result! The eventual winners were Dumb and Dumber, a Hailsham Lions team, with 214 laps from Inbetweeners with 211 laps followed by Autowise team A (210 laps), the Honky Tonks (206 laps), Westgate Security (206 laps), Autowise B (200 laps) and Uckfield Lions (198 laps).

At the end of the event Lions International District Governor Jackie Robinson presented the LIBRA Trophy to the winners together with a banner for the Hailsham Club.
